On October 13, the GlobeMed Network launched its first network-wide fundraising campaign to support our partners around the world and jumpstart the imagine 2030 campaign.
We are mobilizing around America's Giving Challenge, which is an online giving competition hosted on Facebook.com. The organization that rallies the highest number of people to give between October 7 through November 6 will be awarded $50,000. Additionally, the organization with the highest number of donors on each day will receive $1,000.
Since our launch at 8PM on October 13th we've raised over $10,000, won two daily competition prizes of $1,000 each, and have moved into the top three spots for the overall $50,000 prize. This tremendous start has come from making very personal asks to our friends and family. It takes only take a bit of energy and whole lot of enthusiasm.
Here's the gameplan:
- Oct 16-Oct : Get your GlobeMed chapter pumped up for the Facebook Challenge! Encourage your chapter to visit imagine2030.org and sign on to the campaign. Set a time on October 13 (between 8 and 10PM CST) that your chapter will meet together to reach out to your friends and family to support the cause. Also check out the imagine 2030 blog for daily videos with tips on getting ready for October 13th.
-
Oct 13: Meet together with your chapter at the set time. Make your own $10 contribution to the Facebook Challenge (you believe in the cause too, don't you?). Then, get 20 of your friends and family members to donate. Ask the people who seem particularly enthusaistic about giving to reach out 5 of their friends as well. If each GlobeMed member gets 20 people to donate $10, each chapter will secure $5,000 to support their partner.
- Post-Oct 13: Take time to follow-up with the people you asked to donate and make sure they gave. If they have not yet given, spend a moment on the phone with them and explain why you donated to GlobeMed and are asking them to match your donation. A simple phone call can go a long way. Also, make sure to thank all of your friends and family members who did donate!

Nearly all of our fellow college students are on facebook. It's a fast and easy way to reach out to all of our friends to ask them to give. One of the easiest ways to reach all of your facebook friends is to update your status. Check out the sample tweets above -- these will also work for your facebook status. Also, post like mad on all of your friends' walls. Make it personal so your friends don't feel that they're getting spammed. Here are some sample wall posts for you to customize:
- Hey Jonny, I'm asking my closest friends to support my work with GlobeMed. We're trying to raise $5,000 to reduce childhood malnutrition in Ho, Ghana. Would you consider matching my $10 donation? Donate online: http://www.imagine2030.org/donate/
- EVAN!!! Can you match my $10 donation to support childhood HIV prevention in northern Uganda? It's for a kick-ass organization I work with, GlobeMed, and your 10 bucks could help us win a $50,000 prize. If you're up for making an impact today, donate online: http://www.imagine2030.org/donate/
Thanks for your invaluable support! LOVE YOU!
- Hannah, remember that time I drove you to the grocery store? Now, I'm asking you for a favor. A group that I'm part of called GlobeMed is fundraising for a maternal health center in rural Haiti. Match my $10 donation so the center can reach more women and children! Donate online: http://www.imagine2030.org/donate/
Also, if you have a BIRTHDAY between October 7 to November 6, Facebook allows you to create a birthday page through which you can ask all of your friends to give to GlobeMed's Facebook Challenge as a birthday gift. If you're interested in doing this please click here for more information.

Shoot an email to your friends and familiy members who don't regularly use Twitter or Facebook. Make it personal so the email is is more than a plea for a donation. Here's a template:
Hi Ricardo,
I hope this email finds you well! How's school going at Emory? Are you going to be back home for winter break?
I'm not sure I've told you about GlobeMed, a student organization that I am deeply involved with at Northwestern. Our chapter at Northwestern is working with a health center in Ho, Ghana to combat childhood malnutrition. We're currently fundraising to support an agricultural program with the health center that promises to help the children of Ho live healthier lives. I just gave $10 online for the project -- would you consider matching my donation?
It'll only take you a few minutes to donate online at http://www.imagine2030.org/donate/. Thanks for your consideration!
Hope to see you soon,
Victor
