7 members of GlobeMed at CU Boulder will be attending the Clinton Global Initiative Conference in San Diego to represent two projects that they are working on with their partner, Himalayan HealthCare. The two projects are a community latrine building project and a income generation project for women.

Global Health Week of Action: Haitian Celebration on the Mall
10:30 am - 2:30 pm. This will be the third Haitian Celebration on TSU's campus. It has become our annual spring event as we sell Haitian style beans and rice on our mall, while playing Haitian tunes and providing information about our health partnership, Maison de Naissance. A plate of beans and rice goes for $3, and delivery to professors is also available.

"A Toast to Tiyatien" Benefit Dinner
This event will serve to acknowledge our accomplishments over the past year and to garner additional support for Tiyatien Health. We will have two guest speakers at this event: Dave Law, Executive Director of the Joy-Southfield Community Development Corporation, and Pat Lee, Medical Director of Tiyatien Health.

We will hold an auction for a coffee or a lunch with various professors from a variety of academic departments. Students can put in a raffle ticket to spend time with a professor to learn more about his or her research, get feedback on classwork, or just learn more about the professor. This day will be targeted towards funding books for the youth center in Iquitos, Peru.

We will be completing the "Health Brigades and Hand Grenades" series with a refugee panel discussion, in order to have a very personal perspective on global health and safety in conflict zones. We will be relating the panel discussion to the importance of establishing an alarm center in Peru.

We will be auctioning off a variety of goods from the Rochester area, including gift cards and services like hair cuts. Our big item for the day is to auction off a Kaplan Course, highlighting the need for awareness in both our community and in Iquitos, and encouraging discussion on how our university can assist in closing this information and awareness gap.

Mind the Environmental Gap: "Sustainable" Art Show
"We will collaborate with the art studio on campus in order to put on a “sustainable” art showing, where students can submit works using recycled art materials. We will also collect plastic bottles from around campus in a huge push to raise awareness about the importance of recycling while also raising funds to benefit the purchase of recycling and trash bins for the youth center."

This campaign will create a community of 75 vulnerable teenage girls (who will be trained to serve as peer health educators) and 75 Cornellians (students, professors, etc). The campaign hopes to shed light on the fact that we are all one, and should share the responsibility of supporting each other.

Items will be available for UT students and faculty to bid on during the week leading up to the Benefit Dinner. The auction will close during the evening of the dinner and the winners will be announced. We plan on selling water bottles and doing an activity that emphasizes the difficulties of getting clean water in other countries, and the quality of the water they collect compared to the quality our water tanks provide.
