Selling t-shirts on campus that advocate for older adult health care.

CU-Boulder

GlobeMed at CU-Boulder goes to CGIU

7 members of GlobeMed at CU Boulder will be attending the Clinton Global Initiative Conference in San Diego to represent two projects that they are working on with their partner, Himalayan HealthCare. The two projects are a community latrine building project and a income generation project for women.

A letter-writing campaign to our family and friends

Global Health Week of Action: Haitian Celebration on the Mall

10:30 am - 2:30 pm. This will be the third Haitian Celebration on TSU's campus. It has become our annual spring event as we sell Haitian style beans and rice on our mall, while playing Haitian tunes and providing information about our health partnership, Maison de Naissance. A plate of beans and rice goes for $3, and delivery to professors is also available.

"A Toast to Tiyatien" Benefit Dinner

This event will serve to acknowledge our accomplishments over the past year and to garner additional support for Tiyatien Health. We will have two guest speakers at this event: Dave Law, Executive Director of the Joy-Southfield Community Development Corporation, and Pat Lee, Medical Director of Tiyatien Health.

Eat for Hunger

Members will be selling gift certificates for a dinner at Tasca and 20% of proceeds go to our partner’s efforts to set up a community farm.

Exploring Global Health: A Multidisciplinary Approach

Co-hosted by GlobeMed at Duke and Duke Global Brigades, this panel of speakers will provide a glimpse into various unique career paths in global health in hopes of encouraging students to consider applying their own skills to the field. Keynote speakers will be Jamie Carillo of Curamericas and Nadim Mahmud, co-founder of Medic Mobile.

Over 30 global health organizations will come together to spread awareness about their causes in the frame of seven topics—one per day—in global health.

A variety show featuring Loyola talent as well as Chicagoans. We have different types of groups performing--a Filipino hip hop group, spoken word, an accapella group, and Manny Garcia (Youtube him!).

GlobeMedders will face off against other social justice organizations in a pokey stick eating contest to raise money for our partner in Chiapas

Community Babysitting Night

This event will provide a 3 hour nighttime period for faculty and adults in the town of Middlebury to drop their kids off for a night of fun administered by members of GlobeMed. The event will take place in the Athletic Fieldhouse.

After collecting donated items on campus and in area churches, we will be having a rummage sale and day of fun in the park off-campus. There will also be African food and music, as well as henna tattoos and hair braiding. All of campus will be invited along with the downtown community.

GlobeMed is sponsoring a concert between two of the best acapella groups on campus. GlobeMed will have a donation table with information about the group and how the funding will help our Partner, A2N-Uganda. The Co-Leads of the campaign are members of the acapella groups and will speak during the concert about our Chapter's fundraising push.

This two-day rummage sale will be an improvement to last semester's campaign where we raised $1,300! We've received donated clothes from a variety of secondhand clothes shops and have asked staff for donations.

Speaker Event: Francis Obutu, Founder and Executive Director of Health-Alert Uganda

Francis Obutu, the Director of GlobeMed at UNC's partner organization, Health-Alert Uganda, will speak about their work fighting pediatric AIDS in Northern Uganda.

5-8PM - GlobeMed at USC will receive up to 20% of the proceeds from purchases with a flyer or sticker provided by Chick-fil-A.

We're getting art donations from students, Clay Club, and our Fine Arts Department. We have invited critics and curators as an extra incentive for artists to donate art because their art may be featured in professional art shows.

5K Benefit Fun Run

This will be our first chapter-wide individual giving campaign. It will incorporate different media (videos, photos, facebook, etc) to reach out to family and friends to reach our individual and chapter goals. This campaign hopes to bring the enthusiasm and energy of our chapter together for launching the 75 for 75 campaign and GlobeMed Week.

Mind the Literacy Gap: “Coffee with a Professor”

We will hold an auction for a coffee or a lunch with various professors from a variety of academic departments. Students can put in a raffle ticket to spend time with a professor to learn more about his or her research, get feedback on classwork, or just learn more about the professor. This day will be targeted towards funding books for the youth center in Iquitos, Peru.

Mind the Safety Gap: “Health Brigades and Hand Grenades” Part IV

We will be completing the "Health Brigades and Hand Grenades" series with a refugee panel discussion, in order to have a very personal perspective on global health and safety in conflict zones. We will be relating the panel discussion to the importance of establishing an alarm center in Peru.

A 5-on-5 tournament that would make Ben Stiller shake in his Purple Cobra boots. We'll be hosting our tournament at Swinney Recreational Facility, with two courts side-by-side so there will always be some action. $5 dollars per player. Join us!

Food Truck Fair!

GlobeMed is bringing to its campus the finest, most sought-after food trucks of Los Angeles. We are selling tickets for $5; in turn, students will be receiving $7 worth of food.

Mind the Awareness Gap: Silent Auction

We will be auctioning off a variety of goods from the Rochester area, including gift cards and services like hair cuts. Our big item for the day is to auction off a Kaplan Course, highlighting the need for awareness in both our community and in Iquitos, and encouraging discussion on how our university can assist in closing this information and awareness gap.

Mind the Environmental Gap: "Sustainable" Art Show

"We will collaborate with the art studio on campus in order to put on a “sustainable” art showing, where students can submit works using recycled art materials. We will also collect plastic bottles from around campus in a huge push to raise awareness about the importance of recycling while also raising funds to benefit the purchase of recycling and trash bins for the youth center."

The youth center for our partner is meant to provide a diverse range of educational and cultural activities for residents of Iquitos to participate in. Current and future E-Board retreat in the mountains of Colorado. This retreat focuses on long term strategic planning and passing the torch of leadership from the old to the new E-Board.

51 Main Open House

Our newest members will be leading an open house event at the student-run restaurant in the town of Middlebury. Middlebury students will be invited to share experiences, stories, presentations, artwork or writing pieces while donations will be gained through food and drink items sold by GlobeMed.

Art Sale at Communiversity

GlobeMed at Princeton will host an art sale at Communiversity, an annual town-gown festival. The art pieces will be donated from artists around campus and sold at the festival to students and Princeton community members to broaden the scope of GlobeMed's influence

75 for 75 Campaign

This campaign will create a community of 75 vulnerable teenage girls (who will be trained to serve as peer health educators) and 75 Cornellians (students, professors, etc). The campaign hopes to shed light on the fact that we are all one, and should share the responsibility of supporting each other.

Silent Auction

Items will be available for UT students and faculty to bid on during the week leading up to the Benefit Dinner. The auction will close during the evening of the dinner and the winners will be announced. Items available for bidding will most likely include, restaurant/store gift cards, airline tickets, autographed sporting goods, etc.

We plan on selling water bottles and doing an activity that emphasizes the difficulties of getting clean water in other countries, and the quality of the water they collect compared to the quality our water tanks provide.
